Last Night I Went to an Arab Bachelor Party

So, last night/today is Shabbat. And so yesterday we had a wicked game of 8 on 8 ultimate frisbee (i guess that's unrelated) and a college-wide JUC barbecue with peoples' families and stuff too and a vespers service. After, me and some friends went to see if there would be anything special at the Western (wailing) Wall, so we went there for a while. It was interesting though, there were NOT a lot of people there like at all. Where as Thursday night at 11:30pm, there were hundreds and hundreds including children that should be in bed ... I should ask about this phenonmonon!
Anywhoosiers, so we're walking back and we hear some music, sounds like some Moslem music we'd heard previously in a different context.
So, someone suggests we go check it out. We start walking and walking....and walking, its like the longest steepest hill ever, place is kinda shady, we keep going, finally get to level streets, and trying to follow the music, but we realize there might be an echo. Regardless, an Arab kid named "Ramone" comes over and helps us out. He lets us know that he'll take us to the music by showing drumming with his hand, etc... He uses the english phrases he knows like "come children" to lead us there. It was cute. We get there, kind of, and we see from afar that the music is in this elevated building above the city we had been walking in, south of Old City Jerusalem. We're walking back, fine with our discovery when one of the people calls out at us, while we're leaving. And we're thinking, uh-oh, now what. So we walk forward, this 60 yr old arab guy in white dress invites us in, and there are people there sitting on white plastic chairs, and an Arab band playing with two guys on microphones way too loud. They tell us to come in, the offer us drinks. And eventually we find out
It's a bachelor party
Go figure! So, they start dancing and they tell us to dance, and after some reluctance we go too and it was a blast.
We eventually leave, this nice guy brings us back to where we need to go (a faster way to go back to JUC) and his name is "Ah-vode" and we're talking to him. He tells us that the way we came down, the steep long walking street is the place where "Sh** Mafia" are, and that he would never go down that street...we're like....alrighty!!....so we're enthralled to have a BETTER way to go back. He also tells us he'd never dance like he did at the bachelor party we just saw in the US, and then tells us to meet him after work tommorow at 11:30pm at the olive tree hotel...so i just might do that, and we went back home to JUC

So, take that normity, I've been to an Arab bachelor party ... wow

Justin,
Sounds like you are really getting an education. I'm glad to read that you are meeting both Arabs and Israelis. I've always found that both groups are welcoming and friendly.

Some time, go up on the Mt. of Olives and check out Augusta Victoria Hospital.

While visiting in July, I played Frisbee golf on the grounds of AVH with my friend, Mark Brown. AVH offers one of the best views of Jerusalem from the top of the tower. Ask anybody.

Justin,
So how was the first day of Ramadan and Rosh Hashanah? Heard there was a big crowd.
