Walking With Jesus: A Study Through Mark
What follows is what I feel Jesus is teaching me as I read through the Gospel of Mark
Lesson 4: Jesus Came To Save Sinners (2:15, 17)
v. 15 - "Later Levi invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other reputable sinners (There were many people of this kind among Jesus' followers)"
v. 17 - "I have not come to call those who think they are righteous but those who know they are sinners"
While Jesus expects His people to grow in their faith and become more mature Christians, I think sometimes in "church culture" I find myself expecting everyone to be as "advanced" in the faith as me. but the truth is, Jesus came to save sinners. He came to save reputable sinners. Jesus came to save the people who are known as being completely terrible and sinful and horrid oppressors of the name of Jesus Christ.
I think I judge too quickly. I judge too quickly those outside the Church. Those with brass words and lifestyles of drugs, alcohol, tattoos, those who everyone "knows" are terrible people.
The most terrible people that I know are exactly the type of people that Jesus came to save.
If that's true, how am I drawing in those people to my Youth Ministry. Or do I think Jesus doesn't care for the unchurched?
If Jesus really came to save sinners. How am I part of that plan?
